About Me

Hello. My name is Tanna Strom. I offer services to  individuals, couples and families.  My private practice is currently all VIRTUAL using an encrypted platform. My services are open to children, teens, and adults. Even though I consider myself a Relationship Therapist, I also work with individuals on their own personal well being. I see these two parts of my practice being interwoven. It is like a two sided coin. Both sides are important and very much affect each other. Thus, my practice, Strom Individual & Family Therapy.

Allison C. Doerr, Ph.D., BCBA-D

I have worked as a licensed therapist for 18 years. I have been in private practice for the past 8 years. Before opening my practice,  I worked as a Family Therapist with Family and Children's Services. My initial work as a therapist was with Domestic Violence Intervention Services.

I enjoy working with a broad spectrum of clients. My background and choice to see a wide range of ages enables me to understand and be specifically helpful in working with the whole family.

I have noted below how my credentials assist me in my work with different presenting issues and needs of my clients.

My Licensed Marital and Family Therapy  licensure has uniquely prepared me for doing family and couples / marital work. I am a clinical AAMFT fellow. In addition, I am a trained Couples Communication Instructor and  have also had training in the PREPARE ENRICH and RELATE curriculums, which are marriage assessment / preparation programs. I am  Level 2 trained in the Gottman Therapy Method which is used for couples work.  The Gottman Institute is a research based, nationally recognized program. I have done trainings under Dr. Sue Johnson, founder of the empirical researched based Emotionally Focused Couples Training to treat couples as well.

My Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor credentials help me to understand and work with children and teens in a developmentally appropriate way. My first degree is in Early Childhood and as such due to this degree and my RPT-S,  I work with children as young as  5 or 6 years of age, depending on the child. My RPT-S also is very helpful in my family therapy work. It takes a specialized approach to do family work. In addition, I am a Certified Child and Parenting Specialist. This training has given me skills to do parent consultation / coaching. My time spent working as a past Child Development Specialist also adds to my level of understanding of children. In addition, I act as a supervisor for other therapists who are in the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist.

My Licensed Professional Counselor licensure is my educational foundation for my work with individuals. Along with this licensure, I  have additional training to do supervision with LPC Candidates, those who are in training to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. I very much enjoy acting as a mentor to those in training to become a counselor.

My Masters Degree in Family Relations and Child Development and Post Masters Graduate Work in Human Relations has given me a background to teach others. I have enjoyed working with college students in the past in teaching Family Relations and Child Development related classes. I continue to do workshops and classes for parents, teachers, therapists and community groups.

As to my therapy orientation, I consider myself an integrated, prescriptive therapist as that I try to see each individual, couple or family as unique and in need of a therapy approach that fits them specifically. Some of the complementary therapies that I utilize are as follows: Solution Focus Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, Client Centered Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness Based Counseling and Play & Art Therapy. Most recently I did the 18 month intensive training program to become a Clinical EFT Certified Practitioner. This is a mind - body approach. In generaI, I help people to build on their strengths and focus on goals that they develop at the beginning of our work together. I provide practical strategies for clients to consider to address their issues.

I have a high interest in my own personal well being as this is important not only for my own happiness, but for being in a place to help others. This includes taking care of my self by incorporating movement, meditation, EFT "tapping"  and fun into my life as much as possible. My family brings much joy to my life. I am a "nature girl" as I find it soothing and revitalizing. And I love all things organic!
