Hello. My name is Tanna Strom. I offer services to individuals, couples and families. My private practice is in South Tulsa and my services are open to children, teens, and adults. Even though I consider myself a Relationship Therapist, I also work with individuals on their own personal well being. I see these two parts of my practice being interwoven. It is like a two sided coin. Both sides are important and very much affect each other. Thus, my practice, Strom Individual & Family Therapy.
I have worked as a licensed therapist for 15 years. I have been in private practice for the past 8 years. Before opening my practice, I worked as a Family Therapist with Family and Children's Services. My initial work was with Domestic Violence Intervention Services. Before this I worked in the education and social services fields. This broad background has been helpful for me in understanding and helping families in a more comprehensive way.
I enjoy working with a broad spectrum of clients. My background and choice to see a wide range of ages enables me to understand and be specifcally helpful in working with the whole family. My specialties include:
- Family Counseling / Therapy
- Couples and Marital Counseling / Therapy (including pre-marital counseling)
- Parent Counseling and Consultation
- Play Therapy (this includes play, art and sandtray therapies)
- Counseling / Therapy for Children and Teens
- Individual Counseling / Therapy ( anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, life transtions / adjustments, self esteem, personal growth)
- Classes and workshops for groups, schools, churches, etc.
- Supervision for LPC ( Licensed Professional Counselor ) Candidates and RPT (Registered Play Therapist) Candidates
- School Observations
My Licensed Marital and Family Therapy licensure has uniquely prepared me for doing family and couples / marital work. I am a clinical AAMFT fellow. In addition, I am a trained Couples Communication Instructor and have also had training in the PREP / ENRICH curriculums, which are marriage preparation programs. I am a Level 1 Certified Gottmon Therapist. The Gottmon Institute is a research based, nationally recogized program. I recently did training under Dr. Sue Johnson, founder of the empirical researched based Emotionally Focused Couples Training.
My Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor credentials help me to understand and work with children and teens in a developmentally appropriate way. My first degree is in Early Chldhood and as such due to this degree and my RPT-S, I work with children as young as three years of age. My RPT-S also is very helpful in my family therapy work. It takes a specialized approach to do family work. In addition, I am a Certified Child and Parenting Specialist. This training has given me skills to do my parent consultation work. My time spent working as a past Child Development Specialist also adds to my level of understanding of children. I also act as a supervisor for other therapists who are in the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
My Licensed Professional Counselor licensure is my educational foundation for my work with individuals. Along with this licensure, I have additional training to do supervision with LPC Candidates, those who are in training to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. I very much enjoy acting as a mentor to those in training to become a counselor.
My Masters Degree in Family Relations and Child Development and Post Masters Graduate Work in Human Relations has given me a background to teach others. I have enjoyed working with college students in the past in teaching Family Relations and Child Development related classes. I continue to do workshops and classes for parents, teachers, therapists and community groups.
As to my therapy orientation, I consider myself an integrated, prescriptive therapist as that I try to see each individual, couple or family as unique and in need of a therapy approach that fits them specifically. Some of the complementary therapies that I utilize are as follows: Solution Focus Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Client Centered Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness Based Counseling and Play & Art Therapy. I help people to build on their strenghs and focus on goals that they develop at the beginning of our work together. I provide practical strategies for clients to consider to address their issues.
